Our Presenters
Facilitator: Shirli Kirshner
Shirli has a life mission of creating safe spaces for difficult conversations. She started her career as a corporate lawyer at Allen’s and then Gilbert & Tobin before qualifying as a mediator and starting Resolve Advisors, a professional services firm specialising in dispute resolution and system design.
She is currently the co-founder and COA of Elker, a digital platform which provides a safe space for people to report innovation, or issues, and seek support, advice or resolution. It also allows organisations to listen and fix issues early. Elker seeks to make spaces more inclusive.
Shirli has held appointments as an Industrial Registrar, NED of Jewish Care, Shalom institute, and currently IMMAC (the Israel Museum Australian circle). She is an Adviser to One & All (disability programs with panache) and a full-time working mother.
Caroline Lewis
Caroline arrived from London at 22, having married an Aussie boy and found her career in a brand marketing agency, where, as a young director, she juggled the corporate world, mentored women in marketing and raised two wonderful daughters, now 27 & 31. Caroline joined the Board of The Great Synagogue to continue her desire to give back, from 2004-2009 however, she returned ‘home’ to the UK for two years after burning out. Renewed she returned to study counselling and re-joined the Board as Vice President for the next 5 years. Pivoting her career at 52, she life coaches adolescents, helping young people create their personal brand, increase their confidence and find their belonging. In her role at The Great, Caroline developed the WOW program and still attends most Shabbats to offer a warm welcome to members, their guests, visitors and those, like her, looking to find their belonging.
Nikki Kinstlinger Lowe
Nikki was born and raised in Dubbo, in rural NSW where she completed her high school education before moving to Sydney to work and further her studies. She eventually found herself studying Communications/Journalism at UTS, hoping to one day work in the fashion magazine industry. Landing an internship at Cosmopolitan Magazine, she went on to expand her styling skills at Cosmo, Cleo and Dolly Magazines as a Junior Fashion Editor, and later in the digital space as an online fashion editor and content producer at Shop til you Drop and Cosmopolitan. Amid all of this, Nikki discovered Judaism and, after much learning, listening and deliberating, started the Orthodox conversion process. She now lives as an observant Jewish wife and mother, still with a keen eye for fashion and design, however now through a different lens.
Jordi Levin
Jordi Levin is a National Sales Manager for global brands Herschel and Timberland at Accent Group. Born in Johannesburg, raised in Perth, she now lives in the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
In 2021 Jordi competed in Miss Universe Australia, where she made the top 6 as a finalist to compete in the national competition amongst 24 other women for the title.
Her passion, positive self-talk and energy work has allowed her to embrace who she is, the weird and the wonderful and just live every day to the fullest - whilst empowering others to do the same.

Academic, philosopher, writer, researcher, teacher and visionary.
Dr Devorah Wainer is an Associate in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. Her written textbooks, teaching and research are strongly interdisciplinary using theory and lived experience in Social Justice and Human Rights that focus on refugees, asylum seeking and marginalised peoples. Dr Wainer is recognised globally for her significant contributions to the understanding and application of Emmanuel Levinas’ philosophy.
She has two adult daughters—one an actor, facilitator and educator, the other a dancer and yoga teacher. Devorah and her two daughters have a lifelong involvement with Judaism and are also meditators.
Rachel believes strongly in the concept of “tikkun olam”. This concept has been the focus and at the forefront of her working life during which she has tried to improve lives and do good. She first trained as a nurse and specialised in palliative care. She then became a lawyer who works with disadvantaged people. She is passionate about equality, fairness and social justice.
A lifetime ago she had imagined that she would have at least four children, but life does not always go according to plan. She does not have any children.
When not saving the world her passions are art, reading, bushwalking, knitting and engaging in other creative pursuits and Jewish humour.
Judy Singer
Judy Singer was born in Hungary and is a second-generation survivor. She is a member of the Inner West Chavurah and has served as a General Franchise Deputy and a member of the Community Relations Committee on the Jewish Board of Deputies. Judy identifies as being in the middle of 3 generations of neurodivergent women, and is internationally recognised for coining the term Neurodiversity in the 1990s to name the rising civil rights movement of people with conditions like Autism, ADHD, the “Dys”es, etc.
Kirsten Shteinman (McKenzie)
Kirsten grew up in the country town of Devonport, Tasmania. Three weeks after finishing school, at the age of 18, she left Australia for 2 years of solo backpacking in New Zealand, Europe and Israel. Returning to Australia to continue her studies, she lived and studied in Hobart, Perth and finally Sydney where, apart from another 3 years in Israel, she has resided ever since.
It was while studying for her PhD (Molecular Biology) at Sydney University that Kirsten converted to and subsequently met her future husband and married at The Great Synagogue. She currently works part time for Weizmann Australia (Australian arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel) and teaches Iyengar yoga. She has 3 adult children, Eva, aged 28, and Hannah and Zev, aged 22.
Natalie Levy
Natalie is a mother of two, Jesse (13) and Layla (12), and an avid practitioner of Krav Maga. She found her love for the discipline in 2016 and has been devoted to it ever since. Natalie is passionate about empowering women and helping them gain the confidence to defend themselves. Although she is currently injured and unable to train, her passion for Krav Maga and women's empowerment remains unwavering. Despite her injury, Natalie continues to spread her message and work towards her goal of helping women gain the skills and confidence they need to stand up for themselves.
Miriam Waks /
Mimi Larue
Miriam Waks, now kol ishar (in Hebrew "the voice of a woman"), is an Australian-born, New York-based singer, songwriter, poet, and music producer. She has chosen this artist name as a symbolic rebirth, a statement and celebration of finding her true voice as an artist and woman, simultaneously honouring her Jewish heritage while critiquing elements of its practices and traditions. Her songs explore issues such as feminism, sex, spirituality, religion, technology, and climate change and her music is genre-defying incorporating countless musical styles. Producer and composer, she is currently completing a Masters in Songwriting & Music Production. Already a seasoned performer, this performance at WOW will mark her public debut as kol isha.

Naomi Blair
Naomi specialises in exercise for a mood lift. Growing up in Sydney she enjoyed an active lifestyle and discovered the immense benefits a little bit of movement can bring into people's daily lives.
Naomi has a Certificate 3 and 4 in Fitness and a Bachelor's Degree in Media. She has over four years’ experience in helping people with mental health conditions (including Depression, Anxiety. Bipolar, PTSD, Schizophrenia) use exercise to manage their wellbeing. Naomi is trained in Mental Health First Aid and registered with Fitness Australia (AusActive). She enjoys working with NDIS and general population clients who are looking for accountability, support and encouragement to get active.

Michelle Gianferrari
Michelle has 27 years of broad Financial Services experience and expertise in sales, business development and people leadership across Private Banking, Business Banking, Financial Advice, Asset Finance and Financial Education, throughout Australia, South Africa and the UK.
As a passionate leader with an ability to shape and influence the growth of individuals, teams and businesses to exceed expectations, Michelle leads with authenticity, care, determination and strength believing too, that financial independence creates personal freedom. Too often, too many women are not in the driver’s seat when it comes to their financial circumstances and associated freedom. Financial literacy and feeling confident to ask the right questions are key enablers for this to occur.
Michelle is married with two teenage children. She is born, raised, and educated in South Africa and has been fortunate to call Sydney home for the past 12 years. She loves long-distance walking, playing tennis and relaxing on the beach.
Amanda Gordon
Amanda Gordon is a Clinical and Health Psychologist, well-known in the media and within the profession itself. She was the President of the Australian Psychological Society, a peak body that represents 25000 psychologists, from 2004 - 2008, the first Jewish woman to ever hold that position.
Amanda is the Founder of the Bendi Lango bursary for indigenous psychology students, the Founder of National Psychology Week, and founded a Strategic Leadership Programme for psychologists while she was President.
In other roles, Amanda was previously Vice President of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and is currently a Board member of Bondi Mizrachi Synagogue.
Amanda has friendships built from all areas of her life. She includes both men and women in her close friendship circle. She has learned that engaging in activities that you love will facilitate building a network of like-minded people, some of whom will inevitably become friends.

Caroline Lewis
Caroline joined the Board in 2004 and was Vice President from 2014 - 2020. Her desire to see The Great Synagogue live on in the hearts and minds of future generations is what drives her to utilise her design and marketing background to help put The Great at the forefront of Modern Orthodoxy, create innovative events and activities in and around the shul and inspire others’ participation. Now, as a teen and young adult life coach, she also loves to collaborate with, empower and celebrate women’s achievements. Her passion is to bring a sense of belonging, warmth and fun as well as reveling in the spirit, struggles and resilience of all women. The WOW Weekend is a realisation of that dream.
Lauren Ryder
Lauren is Vice President of the Great Synagogue and is passionate about bringing engaging events for people of all ages to the Great. When she's not helping at the Great, Lauren is the CEO of Leading Edge Global, a consulting company specialising in the delivery of business transformation projects. As a strategic change specialist, she has deep project experience spanning IT project management, organisational change management and vendor management. Her specialty is around enabling companies to adopt Digital Transformation, and she speaks publically to executives across Australia on the topic.
