Due to coronavirus, our tours are on hiatus for the foreseeable future. Our apologies.

Our Tour Guides are all volunteers and some have specialised knowledge in different aspects of the synagogue and Jewish life and history generally.

Public tours are usually held:
Every Thursday at 12 noon
Every first and third Tuesday of the month at 12 noon

Cost: $10.00 for adults, $7.00 for Senior Citizens and $5.00 for children.

Entry is from 187a Elizabeth Street, Sydney. We kindly ask that you arrive 10 min before the start time so that you may pass through security.

Schools and interest groups are welcome to book tours at 10am or 2pm on Tuesdays (first and third Tuesday of each month) and Thursdays at a minimum charge of $100 per group. Private tours can also be booked on other days at a minimum charge of $250 per group. We recommend confirming available dates with the Synagogue office two weeks in advance. Phone 9267 2477.

Please note tours are not held on Public Holidays or Jewish festivals.

Visiting over Shabbat?

We are always delighted to welcome Jewish visitors to services at The Great Synagogue. If you are here on a Shabbat morning, please make yourself known to the Gabbai if you are a male; if there is a place in our call-up schedule we would be delighted to offer you an aliya. Should you be able to call or email The Great Synagogue before Shabbat, then we can make your names known to security and welcome you properly.

Should you wish to make a donation in honour of your visit, you are welcome to call the synagogue on +612 9267 2477 after Shabbat or email us in the office.

Visiting over Pesach?

Are you planning to be in Sydney over Pesach? The Great will be hosting a communal seder on Second Night in 2020! Contact the office for more information.
