12 Over 12 - CELEBRATE YOUR BAT MITZVAH as an adult!


Did you miss out on having a Bat Mitzvah at 12? It's not too late!

The Great Synagogue is offering 12 women the opportunity to mark the very significant event of becoming Bat Mitzvah

6 August 2023

We’ll be giving 12 adult women over the age of 12 the opportunity to take part in the service to celebrate their connection with Judaism.


The Program


1. Sunday 25th June  @ 9.30 - 11.30am
- Meet your ‘12 over 12’ cohort.
- Learn more about The Great ‘12 over 12’ program.

2. Sunday 2nd July  @ 9.30 -11.30am
- Your Jewish name and Jewish Birthday.
- Its meaning, significance, and connection to the Jewish calendar.

3. Sunday 9th July @ 9.30 - 11.30am
- Exploring the positive and negative world of Mitzvot.
- How many are relevant today?
- A deeper understanding of the Mitzvah of Tzedakah.

4. Sunday 16th July  @ 9.30 -11.30am
- The special Mitzvot for Women.
- Elevating your Shabbat experience at home and in Shule.
- Challah Bake

5. Sunday 23rd July  @ 9.30 - 11.30am
- 12 Famous Jewish Women to inspire you.
- Our matriarchs and our prophetesses.
- Overcoming life’s challenges.

6. Sunday 30th July at The Great @ 9.30-11.30am
Rehearsing for our ‘12 Over 12’ Presentation
Each participant gives a short presentation on her:
- Jewish journey.
- Jewish name and Birthday.
- Famous Jewish woman.
- Chosen Mitzvah.

7. Sunday 6th August at The Great @ 9.30am-12.30pm
- ‘12 Over 12’ Presentations.
- Brunch with friends and family after the service.


Criteria for acceptance for Bat Mitzvah

You need to:

- Be Halachically Jewish;
- Attend weekly sessions on Sundays from 25 June - 30 July inclusive
- Participate in the presentation service on 6 August 


The cost of the full program is $180, due prior to commencement of the program.
